On May 25, 2017 Valentino Rossi of the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team finished 1st in the Dutch GP, held at the TT Circuit Assen, winning his first GP in a year.

V. Rossi, who started in 4th position, moved up to 1st place in the 10th lap. However, in the latter half of the race weather conditions changed and rain started to fall. Here V. Rossi got involved in a fierce battle for 1st place with D. Petrucci, but he managed to come out on top and win the race with a margin of just 0.063 seconds.
His teammate, Maverick Vinales starting from 11th grid, quickly made his way up the field, but a crash in lap 14 forced him to retire the race.
